The President's Message to Incoming Students

We are here to support you!

Dear Student:

We were pleased to learn that each of you were successful in earning an esteemed offer of admission to the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business (KGSB) MBA, MAcc, MS and PhD programs. Congratulations for achieving this momentous milestone in your life and welcome to Pittsburgh, a great place to Work, Live, Play, & Study. You are embarking on a serious mission which will elevate your career, yourself and the lives of your families as a result of your successful journey through the Katz Ready program. You will indeed find your first term tough though along the way you will undoubtedly make strategic connections with your professors, teaching assistants, career counselors, fellow students, Pittsburgh community & business leaders and the members of the Pitt Black MBA Network (PBAN). PBAN is here to partner with you to support your successful completion of this advanced degree and placement in a worthwhile internship and post-graduation career in Management. We encourage you to take full advantage of all the experiences available for you and offered to you in the form of fellowships, certifications, study abroad, and student leadership opportunities while attending the school.

For students’ benefit, the Pitt Black MBA Network members are integrated throughout the Pitt and KGSB community in Pittsburgh and across the globe. We visit the school during the fall and spring terms to hold our board of directors meetings and other events and to interact with you in-person. We serve on the boards of directors of both the PittBusiness Alumni Association and the Pitt African American Alumni Council. Many of our board members hold multiple degrees from Pitt and professionally our members are or have been executives in Fortune 50 companies, SMB owners, entrepreneurs, and other professionals. We are here to support you! So I look forward to seeing you during your first week on campus and some of our members will seek to engage you at the annual National Black MBA Conference --to assist you in career fair preparation--and we will see you during our fall visits to the school during Homecoming and during the Diversity Recruitment Weekend.

All our best to you.
